Do you love everything about the look of Kualoa Ranch but not necessarily want to rent a private venue? Do you want to do photos at a beautiful beach? Do you love the idea of a grassy beach park with green mountains? This stunning location is just across the road from Kualoa Ranch.
As a wedding and elopement photographer on Oahu, I'm excited to share with you everything you need to know about having a Hawaii beach wedding Kualoa Regional Park (also called Kualoa Beach Park).
This stunning location has dramatic mountains views AND a soft white sand beach - plus blue water - what more can you ask for?! Plus its conveniently only a short 45 minutes from Waikiki on iconic H3 highway with gorgeous views of the mountains and island the whole drive.
Kualoa Regional Park is the perfect Oahu beach for your photos. However, there are some important things to consider when choosing this location for your wedding ceremony. I'll get to those later.
First I want to tell you why Kualoa Regional Park is such a great choice for your Oahu beach wedding:
Its absolutely stunning -The golden sand, turquoise waters, and dramatic mountains make for a truly breathtaking setting that will leave a lasting impression on you and your guests.
The dramatic views of the Ko'olau Mountain range is really what set this beach apart for me. I love that mountain range. When you turn into this beach it feels like it's own little quiet corner of the world.. which makes it perfect for a beach elopement.
Size - This is really quite a long beach. Which gives you tons of flexibility in terms of your wedding style. The beach can accommodate both large and small ceremonies, and the natural beauty of the surroundings provides a stunning backdrop for any wedding theme. Whether you're planning a classic, elegant ceremony or a bohemian beach wedding, Kualoa Regional Park could be the perfect location.
Secluded - Kualoa Regional Park is far enough from the city/Waikiki that you can really start to relax. This Oahu beach is secluded and next to a campground. It's not visible from the road which means that you and your guests can enjoy the ceremony without too many distractions from others.

A few other things to consider when choosing this ceremony location:
Weather - Let me just start by saying: Hawaii can be windy. There is usually an "island breeze". If trying to minimize this is something that you prioritize, I highly recommend you schedule your ceremony in the morning when winds are more likely to be much calmer.
It is worth bringing up that there is also slightly higher of a chance for rain on this side of the island but thats what makes the mountains so beautiful! In all my time as a photographer we have only been rained out on only a few shoots. And its always really awesome when my couples embrace the weather! Think about how romantic that scene in the notebook is..
Parking - A huge bonus to this location: there is sooo much parking available here that you never have to worry! However there is a gate on the parking lot so you can not get in outside of beach park hours (or out!). Keep this in mind when sticking around after sunset so don't get your car locked in.

Beach Traffic - Kualoa Regional Park is a popular spot for tourists, surfers, and locals, especially on weekends. To avoid any interruptions during your ceremony, it's best to choose a weekday or on a weekend an early morning time when there are fewer people around.
Licenses - If you're planning a legal wedding ceremony, you'll need to obtain a marriage license in the State of Hawaii. You can apply for a marriage license online or in person at the Department of Health on Maui.
Your photographer will also require their own permit no matter which Oahu beach you choose. So many permits! But if you work with me as your photographer I can help you navigate all of these steps.

It's also important to remember to respect the natural environment of Kualoa Regional Park. The beach is home to a variety of wildlife, and it's important not to disturb the local flora and fauna. I always practice "Leave No Trace" on all of my photoshoots so that the land can continue to look as beautiful as it did on the day you got married for several generations to come.
When it comes to selecting a wedding photographer, it's important to choose someone who is experienced and knowledgeable about the specific location where you'll be having your ceremony.
